2022 Facial Mask Guide

Aw, masks, where the magic happens in a facial. When we think of a facial, we usually picture a face with a mask on it.  Whether we are giving or receiving the facial, we envision how the brush feels against our (or clients) skin while a mask is luxuriously placed, eyes shut, and a space is set to relax. As an aesthetician, we are able to go into our mask tool box and find the most effective and result oriented mask while providing an experience. This guide will help you choose the product to complete this task.

The benefits of masks have been known for hundreds of years!

  • Brighten complexion
  • Hydrate
  • Nourish/maintain the lipid barrier
  • Draw impurities and congestion out of pores
  • Prevent acne
  • Tighten and tone
  • Improve the skin’s elasticity
  • Relieve irritation
  • AntiFungal
  • Normalize moisture content
  • Inhibit inflammation
  • Promote cell regeneration
  • Antimicrobial

Mask types

Masks consist of vitamins, botanical extracts, oils combined in clay, yogurts, powders, seaweed, and hydrating bases.

If we really look at the way mask’s function there are two types of masks, setting and non-setting. Non-setting masks are those that are designed to stay moist and usually provide a more hydrating effect. Setting masks harden, dry, or create a complete barrier on the skin. Clay, algae, peel off, and sheet masks would fall within this category.  Cream, gel, and yogurt-based masks make up this category.

How to choose?

 Alexanders’ Aesthetics has you covered!

So many masks, so little time, that’s why we put together this 2022 Mask Guide. A mask is available for every client that will enhance your results.

Chemical peels, an esti bestie.

As an esthetician, I personally felt fearful about providing a chemical peel service when I first received my advanced exfoliation certification. I have come to find many others have the same anxiety around chemical peel procedures. Knowledge brings power in any case and that is no different in the world of aesthetics. So, let’s talk chemical peels.

A chemical peel is a form of advanced exfoliation that removes the first layer of dead skin cells.

The proliferation of skin cells is 28 to 30 days based on age. As we age the rate in which our skin cells produce slows down, causing dull skin, breakouts and haggard skin. Skin cells don’t always shed off completely. Here is where estheticians and our AHA/BHA pals can do magic.

What are the benefits?

  • Softens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Lightens hyperpigmentation
  • Smooths scarring
  • Boosts collagen production
  • Prevents and clears acne

What are chemical peels composed of?

Intimidating word, right? We start thinking of a scene right out of a movie, a big tub of green acid with bubbles oozing out of it. Not the case at all, in fact many acids are from fruits or plants. Much less scary, right? As estheticians, the peels that we are able to utilize are safe when used with caution and correct protocols. Medical spas who have doctors overseeing the facility may use peels that are targeting deeper layers of the skin, but for the most part, skincare companies have gone to great lengths to provide effective and safe peels. Many lines require insurance to purchase, keeping skincare professionals protected. (Check out our ASCP code

  • Sun exposure
  • Pregnancy
  • Breastfeeding
  • Retin-A
  • Certain Medications/Antibiotics
  • Sensitive/reactive skin

How do we utilize a chemical peel?

A few ways!

Spot treating, peel series, 30 minute facials, a full 60 minute protocol, or paired up with manual exfoliation such as dermaplaning. (Check your state guidelines for double exfoliation rules and regulations.) Spot treating is a favorite of mine. When clients come in with hormonal or general  acne around the jawline but not necessarily all over the rest of their face, spot treating with Skin Script Cranberry Turnover Peel could be an option based on their skin type. A peel series could be great for those battling extreme acne or if the client is working on anti-aging skin concerns. Thirty minute facials would be ideal if doing a series or a great option to have on your menu as an express treatment. An esthetician could have a 60 minute chemical peel facial, this could include more product, or microderm, dermaplaning, etc. There are so many approaches to how we use peels in our treatment room. The key in choosing the “how” is by client consultation and skin evaluation. See below to download our chemical peel protocols

Let’s break it down.

Where to purchase?

With us!

I might be biased but Alexander’s Aesthetics has great chemical peels to choose from and you can purchase all your esthetic needs at the same time! So let’s peel out and get started!

CA Botana Price Increase

There is never a good time to increase prices – even when the last increase was over 6 years ago. Over the years CA BOTANA has done their very best to keep their prices the same, even though many things have changed: CA BOTANA seen their costs rise due to yearly raw material increases, packaging seeing a 15% upcharge, not to mention the ever-rising freight costs resulting from increases in gas, insurance, and tariff expenses.

CA Botana will be implementing new prices starting on April 15, 2021.

We thank you for your continued support of natural and botanical skin care lines: Doctor D. Schwab, Ambrosia & Sea Enzyme.

Important Notice: Skin Script Price Increase & New Products

Price Adjustment
After 14 years, Lisa Vanbockern, owner of Skin Script has found it necessary to adjust prices. This will be Skin Script’s first price adjustment. Before anyone gets upset, keep in mind some items are going down in price!

As you can imagine, the pandemic has done a real number on supply and demand. Ingredients and packaging are sourced worldwide (although it is all created here in Chandler, AZ). When the pandemic hit and companies closed for months, Skin Script’s ingredients and packaging were not shipping, which created a supply and demand problem. What Lisa also didn’t anticipate was how it would affect transportation in the shipping world; shipping costs have doubled due to the demand for shipping items. It’s for these reasons we need to incorporate a price adjustment.

What’s changing?
Skin Script is implementing approximately a 10% price adjustment across the board on most retail products. The samples and backbar prices are adjusted based on the new retail price. You’ll notice the backbar moisturizers have gone up more than 10% and that’s because now the pricing will be in alignment with the “retail price per ounce”. What’s going down in price? Backbar cleansers. These have been adjusted according to the “retail price per ounce”. We sincerely hope this fits with your business; remember to adjust your retail pricing according to the new prices.

New Products

Mint Lip Hydrator
This easy to use lip treatment will help lock in moisture while peppermint cools and stimulates the lips. Shea butter is soothing and supports the delicate tissue of the lips by slowing TEWL. The mild mint flavor comes from peppermint oil. The slant tip applicator makes application a breeze!

Citrus-C Nourishing
Skin Script’s new gentle, yet robust, Vitamin C cream is for normal to dry skin. We still have our classic Vitamin C/Green Tea Serum for your normal to oily skin types, but now you will have the option of which one you and your clients like best!

If you have any questions, call us at 800-367-2539, or email us. We appreciate you and your continued business.
